Waiheke Connect Co-Working Etiquette
COVID-19 Requirements
Please help keep everyone safe by staying home if you’re sick or have any symptoms and let your co-workers know if you test positive for COVID19. There are no mask requirements for the space but you are welcome to wear a mask. We endeavour to ventilate the space as much is practicable, so while we have a heat pump we will often opt for an open window even in winter.
Respect
We operate on a trust system of mutual respect. We are a not-for-profit community run group where people are expected to self-manage their behaviour. Respectful behaviour is mostly just common sense. As a co-worker, as in any other shared working environment, you need to respect others that share your space.
We all help create and nurture the awesome island co-working community we are part of.
We bring a positive, community minded attitude into the space.
Be friendly. A quick mōrena in the morning make all the difference to the vibe. One of the main advantages of being part of collaborative office space is that it facilitates networking; one might never know what opportunities, connections or mutual sharing of skills could crop up from a simple hello to your neighbour. Be sensitive to someone’s vibe; don't interrupt if someone is clearly busy. It's this open attitude that makes coworking spaces vibrant, creative and welcoming.
We consider the noise levels we may generate and its impact on those around us.
Phone conversations, zoom meetings and loud conversations need to be in one of our two meeting rooms, or taken outside. The space is small, and a conversation in the kitchen can still be heard by the entrance door, so be mindful of your voice wherever you are in the space. Short or infrequent chitchats are OK (this isn’t a monastery), but loud disruptive convo’s that affect someone’s concentration are not! Be sensitive to your surroundings so you are able to pick up on what is acceptable and what isn’t.
We care for the space / Don’t be gross.
We care for the things we share. We clean up after ourselves, ready for the next person to use them. We do not have hired help to do this for us, so it’s up to us. This means we do our own dishes and clean up anything someone has forgotten. We leave the toilets as we would like to find them. If the coffee, milk or toilet paper is low, we restock or ask our Community hosts to reorder. If the compost bin is full or stinky, we empty it.
Confidentiality.
Treat information that you receive about co-workers’ business as confidentially as you would your own. In addition, be aware of what business you carry out in the shared space, or any decisions / conversations you are taking part in.
Safety & Security.
If we are the last to leave, we make sure the windows are closed, the door is locked, and place is a nice state for the next day’s first arrival. We never share the code for the access key with any non-member, and we never abuse the privilege of accessing the space outside of regular co-working hours without permission.
And lastly…
We are building the space as we go…
Please be patient. We may not have everything 100% sorted yet, and there are things that may be missing from the space as we build this space on a shoestring budget with the help of volunteers. We are building this space from the group up with the help of volunteers, donated items and a whole lot of creativity. When we find something broken, we try to fix it ourselves or tell our community hosts so they can get a professional in. If we find something is missing, we bring it from home if we have one spare or ask others if they have one.
“We create the world (co-working space) we want to live (work) in”.
